Load Cell & Torque Sensor Calibration Equipment

Many industries such as pharmaceutical, medical, testing, etc. must continuously monitor and calibrate their measuring equipment to comply with government and industry regulations. For some companies, it is beneficial to have in-house calibration capabilities through the use of NIST traceable reference standards. Sensing Systems designs and manufactures standard and custom calibration kits to enable companies to in-source their calibration needs.

Calibration kits include NIST traceable reference standards, along with necessary loading fixtures, adapters, procedures, and traceability documentation. These kits allow companies to perform full calibrations and/or periodic measurement assurance checks to reduce their dependence on outside calibration providers.

Calibration kits are designed and selected based on equipment type and capacity. Sensing Systems offers a variety of standard and custom kits for any force / load cell calibration or torque calibration needs.

Force Calibration Equipment

Equipment used for calibrating or checking load cells and force sensors fall into two categories, depending on the application and capacities required:

Load Cell Calibration Kits:

A load cell calibration kit consists of a precision load cell with a digital indicator to readout directly in engineering units. Load cell-based kits are typically used for applications exceeding 250 lbf.

Load cell kits can be included with or without loading equipment to apply the calibration loads to the sensor requiring calibration. In many cases, the reference load cell can be installed in the customer’s testing machine or press to apply loads, using appropriate fixtures and adapters.

Deadweight Calibration Kits:

A deadweight calibration kit consists of a loading stand, Class F test weights, and weight pan. Weight kits are typically used for applications up to 250 lbf for ease of loading, but custom capacities are available.

Sensors requiring calibration are installed in the loading stand using appropriate fixtures and adapters, and weights are hung on a weight pan to apply a known load to the sensor. The loading stand is designed to enable compression and tension loading.

Torque Calibration Equipment

Equipment used for calibrating or checking torque sensors and transducers fall into three categories, depending on the application and capacities required:

Deadweight & Torque Arm Calibration Kits:

A deadweight-based torque calibration kit consists of a lever arm, Class F test weights, and weight pan. Weights are hung from the calibrated lever arm at a known distance to apply a traceable torque load to the sensor. Calibration kits may come with or without a torque stand to secure the sensor during loading.

Torque Sensor Calibration Kits:

A torque sensor-based calibration kit consists of a precision torque sensor with a digital indicator to readout directly in engineering units. The reference torque sensor is installed in line with the sensor needing calibration to provide direct comparison during loading. These kits often include custom loading equipment to apply torque to the sensors.

Load Cell & Torque Arm Calibration Kits:

A load cell based torque calibration kit consists of a lever arm and precision load cells with a digital indicators to readout directly in engineering units. These kits are typically custom designed for high capacity applications, and include hydraulic pumps and jacks to apply loads
